In Brazil, the shark Ritinha, housed in the Rio de Janeiro aquarium, is engaged in predicting matches for the upcoming World Cup, which will commence on June 11th in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
The animal is being compared to its famous predecessor, the octopus Paul, who was known for his predictions in the 2010s. The video is being shared by Reuters.
The aquarium’s director, Marcelo Spilman, explains that the decision to choose a shark was made to demonstrate that these creatures are not as malevolent as they are often perceived. According to him, sharks are surrounded by myths, but he hopes that the attention given to Ritinha will help shift perceptions towards all sharks in general.
The shark’s initial prediction was for the Brazilian national team’s first match in the tournament, against Morocco. Ritinha specifically selected the Brazilian team as the victors, much to the delight of the onlookers.
