
On July 22nd, Ukrainian forces repelled one of the most significant Russian assaults in Donetsk, which lasted for four hours and resulted in heavy Russian losses.
This was reported by the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine.
According to the Azov Corps, on July 22nd, occupying forces from the 8th and 41st armies, as well as the 90th Tank Division, attempted an assault within the 1st Corps’ area of responsibility. Dozens of armored and light vehicles were involved in the attack.
The 41st Combined Arms Army and the 90th Guards Vitebsk-Novgorod Tank Division advanced from the area of Novoeconomicheskoye settlement.
Simultaneously, forces from the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army moved out from the vicinity of Vozdvizhenka village.
For four hours, Russian troops attempted to enter settlements in the area of Shakhove village.
How Ukrainian Forces Fought
The enemy attempted to control the air with “Geran” and “Lancet” attack drones. Additionally, the adversary employed the modern “Tornado-S” MLRS to support their assault operations.
Units of the 1st Azov Corps of the NGU, along with attached units, stood in the path of the mechanized columns. Minefields were established on the approaches to Ukrainian positions, and bridge crossings were damaged by tactical aviation of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During the assault, the Russians attempted to repair the crossings using pontoon bridges, but these were also destroyed by tactical aviation.
Enemy Losses
According to the Azov Corps, Ukrainian forces destroyed the following using artillery, MLRS, and attack drones:
7 tanks;6 armored fighting vehicles;1 BM-21 “Grad” MLRS;1 “Tornado-S” MLRS;3 units of special equipment;47 units of light vehicles.
123 Russian occupants were eliminated, and another 29 were wounded. The mechanized assault was repelled.
Who Participated in the Defense
The enemy’s assault was halted through the joint efforts of units from the 1st Azov Corps of the NGU, the SBU’s “Alpha” Special Operations Center, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (specifically the “Phoenix” Main Unmanned Systems Department), and other units of the National Guard and the Armed Forces of Ukraine operating in the direction.
