Major General Ihor Skibyuk has become the new head of the General Staff. This was announced by Volodymyr Zelensky.
The President of Ukraine noted that the new head of the General Staff and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces worked side-by-side defending Ukraine. “It is important that all components of our army continue to function in perfect coordination. We also jointly determined how Oleksandr Syrskyi and Andriy Hnatov will serve the defense of our state in the future,” Zelensky noted.
Ihor Skibyuk – what is known about him
Ihor Skibyuk was born on October 10, 1976, in the city of Konotop, Sumy region. Since 1998, he began his service in the 80th Galician Airborne Assault Brigade as a platoon commander.
In 2016, Ihor Skibyuk commanded Ukrainian units in the international exercise “Maple Arch-2016”.
In 2014, he was wounded but returned to his duties after treatment.
In 2022, he led the defense of Kyiv against Russian troops.
In 2023, he became the head of the staff – deputy commander of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On February 11, 2024, the president appointed him commander of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
