G7: Дональд Трамп переглянув погляд на Росію – Bloomberg

Ukraine’s European allies are utilizing the G7 summit to persuade U.S. President Donald Trump to engage more actively in resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the closed-door discussions.

According to the agency’s interlocutors, a consensus is forming among summit participants that Ukraine’s positions on the front lines are strengthening, and Russia is incapable of achieving a military victory.

As Bloomberg notes, after his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska in 2025, Trump was convinced that Kyiv lacked sufficient leverage and should agree to territorial concessions to end hostilities.

However, during the summit in Evian, France, the situation appears to have begun to shift. Cameras captured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussing the possibility of arranging a separate meeting with Trump with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Subsequently, Macron briefly brought the American and Ukrainian leaders together on the sidelines of the summit. According to one of Bloomberg’s sources, Zelensky showed Trump photographs of the aftermath of Russian strikes on Kyiv, including the damaged Dormition Cathedral. The agency’s interlocutor claims this made an impression on the U.S. President.

Following this, a separate meeting with Zelensky was added to Trump’s schedule, which was not initially planned.

Commenting on the situation to journalists, Trump stated that Russia should reach an agreement.

“Russia needs to make a deal. All of this is just absurd. I will do everything I can,” he said.

Bloomberg points out that this time the U.S. President did not repeat his usual calls for Ukraine to agree to concessions.

Furthermore, Trump did not rule out the possibility of strengthening sanctions against Moscow after the situation in the Middle East stabilizes.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also stated that the Russian economy is suffering significant losses due to the war, which is affecting sentiments in Moscow.

According to the agency, the French President invited Zelensky to stay at the summit until its conclusion so that he would have more opportunities to interact with other leaders, particularly Trump.

At the same time, Bloomberg emphasizes that this is not about an official policy shift by the U.S., but rather about signals that may indicate a gradual evolution of the American president’s stance on the war in Ukraine.
