Dynamo Kyiv took the lead during the 13th minute as Vladyslav Vanat expertly converted from close range.

Following halftime, the Maltese squad resisted persistent pressure until conceding twice in the closing stages: Vitaliy Buyalsky found the net at 76 minutes before Nazar Voloshyn sealed the result during stoppage time (90+2).

UEFA match data revealed 13 attempts by Dynamo, including six directed on target, while Hamrun Spartans failed to register a single accurate effort from their four shots.

Teams will reconvene for the decisive leg on July 29.

The advancing side (heavily favored to be Dynamo) will face either Paphos FC (Greece) or Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel) in subsequent qualifying rounds, following their initial 1-1 stalemate.
